This literary candle is inspired by the masterpiece of suspension and the actual prototype of the science fiction genre. Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus, was written in the Swiss Alps by an eighteen-year-old Mary Shelley. It became an instant bestseller on anonymous publication in 1818.
This particular 1886 book cover was published with an introduction by the Rev H.R. Hawels, a Victorian Priest, who wasn't in awe by the core of the book, but appreciated "subtle analysis of moods". Rev Hawels also felt that Christianity and spiritualism were compatible, and attended seances himself.
